The phrase “continual learning” is one of great importance in education. It is something that happens naturally but also something that needs to given a conscious and constant effort. Fortunately, it is easier than ever to engage in professional development experiences both online and in person. While I spent the start of my teaching career in two very large cities, I now live in work in a much smaller more remote community. For me to “engage in continuous learning” I rely heavily on digital and asynchronous PD and PLN options that I have described in the following blog post. And while online networks are extremely valuable options, there is still a need for in-person PD and networking. When I attended the NCCE conference a couple years ago I made a lot of connections to other tech educators and learned of many digital teaching tools I could take back to my classroom.
